Example Benefits 101: Your own custom email address!

If you buy a domain name that matches or suggests your surname, such as, "Cantamara" or even "Smith", you can register that name (if available). Then you can use something called an email redirect which allows you to create an email address such as "yourname@surname.com" which you point to your actual email such as tsmith42@ISP.net. More on this shortly!

Although literally billions of names, including 99.99% of surnames, have already been taken, you can try different "Top Level Domains" aka TLCs like "TheSmiths.biz", "TheSmiths.org", "TheSmiths.Net", and so on.

If that doesn't pan out, you can get even more creative with variations on your name like "TheSmithClan", "WeSmiths", "TheNYSmiths", "TheAmazingSmiths", "UberSmiths", and so on. Most domain names cost only $8-$20/year.

Powerful Feature: Email Redirects

Another powerful benefit is that if your change your internet email provider (usually your internet services provider or "ISP", such as from email@OldISP to another at Verizon, Rogers, ATT, Cabletron, Cablevision, Frontier, Sympatico, Sprint, Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, Telus, et al, you only need to make one change to your email redirect (support can help you do that. That way, all your contacts to whom you gave your custom address will have to do nothing at all since only the destination address(es) in the redirect you setup is changed.

Imagine your email address changed when you changed your ISP. Without redirects you'd have to go through Hell and back to email every contact you can think of to tell them to use the new address. Then what about the 100's you forgot about such as user groups, mailing lists, stores, banks, mortgage company, church, school, office, and every site you visited that needed an email. Disaster!

Redirects to the rescue! Since mail sent to your redirected address is instantly forwarded to your email address at your actual mail provider, you need only change the redirect definition to the new provider. That's it! You do NOT send a single email change notification to those 100's of contacts (mostly forgotten)! How much is that respite worth! Even better, with each domain name you register, you typically get 100 FREE redirects to use as you wish. Oh, what a relief that was!!!

Redirects = Group Addresses!

Yet another feature of redirects is that you can specify a few destination addresses without resorting to the hassle of a special mailing list program or service. E.g., if there are 4 people in a group (e.g., your family), each of whom have their own address, you could create a one redirected address that forwards the same email to all members. E.g., Family@Surname.net, Help@Company.com, or
Info@StVincenzo.org which forwards the received email to to all destination addresses. This feature works best when you have a few people in the group such as 2-10. Special programs called Mailing Lists are better suited for much larger lists of 2, 30, 50, 100s or even 1,000s of addresses.
